SKIN CARE

The aim of skin care for lymphoedema is to keep your skin intact and maintain its protective layer.

A good skin care routine helps prevent the risk of infections (bacteria cellulitis) in limbs affected by lymphoedema. We can discuss with you the preferred moisturiser lotions, sunscreen and cleansers to assist you with achieving good skin hygiene and will instruct you how to perform dry body brushing techniques at home to promote and stimulate lymphatic flow.

Key Features to Look For:

Hydration: Choose lotions with occlusive agents like shea butter or glycerin to lock in moisture and prevent dryness. Hydration is crucial for maintaining healthy skin, especially in lymphedema patients.

Balanced pH: Chose products with a pH of between 5.5 to 6.0 to mimic the skin's natural acidity. This helps prevent irritation and maintains the skin's protective barrier.

Fragrance Free: Fragrance can irritate sensitive skin, so it's best to select unscented products.

Your therapist can recommend some inexpensive and effective  products for you to consider.
